🕯️ 24 Hour Peace Vigil 🕯️

6 August 2025

The Need for Peace Has Never Been Greater

Hope for a World Without War was the theme of a Vigil organised by Holy Family Lay Members from 12 Noon, July 19 to 12 Noon, July 20 held at The Suaimhneas Centre, in Clane Co. Kildare, Ireland.

“Suaimhneas” is an Irish word that translates to peace, calm, tranquility, or quietness in English.
In a world that feels increasingly heavy with suffering, it can be hard to know how to respond.
When words fail and answers feel far away — stillness can speak.
This vigil was a simple act of peace in compassion, and in hope.
A space to honour all who are affected by violence, loss, and displacement — wherever they may be.

There was no agenda, no speeches, no expectations,
just an invitation to pause, to be present, to hope for peace.
This peaceful gathering honoured the victims of war and suffering in Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, Congo, and all regions impacted by violence and militarism.

The vigil featured a Candle lighting ceremony, local speakers, musicians, choirs and writers, moments of silence for victims of war and Community participation with a Peace wall to write a message on and sign, peace stones to decorate, tea and coffee to share and lots of time to sit and contemplate a world without war.
